South Whittier Elementary School District

South Whittier School District (SWSD) is an award-winning district that comprises 5 elementary schools (TK-6) and a middle school (7-8) located in the unincorporated area of Whittier and proudly serves approximately 2260 students. The District’s motto is “Success for Every Student” and is evident through the intentional actions and high expectations of our Trustees and the commitment and dedication of our classified, certificated and administrative staff members. Collaboratively, we work together to ensure that every child has access to a rigorous and appropriate education in a clean and supportive environment where they can grow and thrive academically and emotionally. SWSD is committed to providing every student with a world-class education that includes opportunities such as AVID, Spanish Dual Immersion, STEM (PLTW & robotics), VAPA (Mariachi, dance, band, and art), and concurrent enrollment in a local community college. Additionally, students and families have access to before and after school programs and to our award-winning Mental Health Program and many other services to ensure a well-rounded scholastic experience.  SWSD students develop skills and characteristics that prepare them to transition into high school, college and eventually the workforce. SWSD students are supported in an educational environment where they are engaged in conversation, projects, performances and presentations that utilize critical thinking skills so that they are prepared to compete in and contribute to a global society. 

Every SWSD employee has a hand in making the District the best it can be and the power to positively influence students by fostering healthy relationships, supporting students in their challenges, and providing access to a robust and broad curriculum.
