What is Community Schools?

South Whittier School District serves over 2,000+ students, their families, and their guardians. As part of the Community Schools Movement, we believe that students and families thrive when we work together.

Community Schools are built on a simple idea: Schools become stronger when they partner with families, staff, and the community to meet the whole needs of every student.

This means we focus on:

Strong relationships with students, families, and staff

Support services that remove barriers to learning

Family engagement and leadership

Enrichment and learning opportunities beyond the school day

Collaboration between the school, district, and community partners
