South Whittier School District welcomed parents and families to its Title 1 Conference for Parents at the Family Resource Center at Monte Vista on Saturday, September 19. The conference was a day filled with educational workshops, informative district information, raffles, food, and community.

The event opened with registration and breakfast, giving families a relaxed start before a full morning of learning and connection. From there, parents chose from a variety of breakout sessions offered across two rounds, covering topics like technology and digital wellbeing, supporting multilingual learners, literacy at home, and staying informed about academic progress. Sessions were offered in both English and Spanish, ensuring every family could participate fully.

In between sessions was a group session on Community Schools, where families explored what a Community School is, what an authentic partnership with their school looks like, and discussed ways to share their voices in shaping school programs and decisions.

The event also relied on a wide network of community partners, including Think Together, the YMCA, Options for Learning, the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation, Spirit Family Centers, the California Highway Patrol, and Northgate Market. Their presence reflected the district's collaborative approach to supporting families with resources that extend well beyond the classroom.

The conference closed with lunch and a raffle, giving families one more chance to connect with each other and with district staff in a warm, informal setting.
