Loma Vista Elementary Named One of America's Healthiest Schools for 2026

Loma Vista Elementary School has been named a 2026 Awardee of America's Healthiest Schools, a national recognition presented by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation in partnership with Kaiser Permanente and Kohl's Cares. The award celebrates schools across the country that demonstrate outstanding commitment to the health and well-being of their students, staff, and families.
Loma Vista Elementary earned this distinction by achieving recognition in three key areas: Supporting School Health Services, Strengthening Social-Emotional Health & Learning, and Increasing Family & Community Engagement.
In a letter congratulating the school, Traci Causey, Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, praised Loma Vista's achievement, writing, "This recognition is worth celebrating, and it reflects the care, creativity, and commitment you bring to supporting the health and well-being of your entire learning community. The healthy policies and practices you're putting in place today help students feel their best, learn their best, and build a strong foundation for the future."
"This honor belongs to our entire school community," said Loma Vista Elementary Principal Kristine Carreon. "Our educators, staff, families, and students have all worked together to build a culture of health and well-being at Loma Vista, and we are incredibly proud to be recognized on a national stage."
The district also recognized Mrs. Melgoza, Loma Vista's Community Liaison, for spearheading the award application and for her ongoing efforts to highlight the many positive initiatives happening at Loma Vista Elementary. Her dedication to showcasing the school's achievements played a key role in earning this national recognition.
America's Healthiest Schools recognizes K-12 schools nationwide that implement research-based policies and practices supporting whole-child health, from school health services and social-emotional learning to family and community engagement. Award recipients are evaluated against a comprehensive set of national benchmarks developed by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
South Whittier School District congratulates Loma Vista Elementary's administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families on this well-earned recognition, and thanks them for their continued dedication to creating a healthier school community.
