Loma Vista Recognized as Erika’s Lighthouse Peggy Kubert Model School in Mental Health Excellence

South Whittier School District’s Loma Vista Elementary School has been recognized by Erika’s Lighthouse as a Peggy Kubert Model School for the 2025–2026 school year, a distinction that honors schools demonstrating excellence in Tier 1 mental health programming and a strong commitment to fostering supportive and inclusive environments for students, staff, and families.
The Peggy Kubert Model School designation recognizes schools that implement effective systems of support, prioritize mental health awareness, and create a culture where wellness is an integral part of student success.
This recognition follows a year of intentional growth and improvement. Over the last year, Loma Vista expanded opportunities for student voice and leadership through peer-to-peer engagement programs focused on mental health while also increasing family participation in wellness initiatives and school community events.
Some student-led initiatives that Loma Vista incorporated included the Calming Lobos (Empowerment Club), which provides students with opportunities to support one another and promote positive mental health awareness on campus. The school also created Lucky’s Lounge, a dedicated wellness space where students can pause, regulate their emotions, and regroup during the school day.
This recognition took a collective effort of the entire Loma Vista community, including students, families, and staff members who have embraced and supported the school’s wellness initiatives.
As Loma Vista continues its work to support the whole child, the school remains committed to creating a safe, compassionate, and connected learning environment where students can thrive both academically and emotionally.
