SWSD Hosts Annual Health & Wellness Fair

South Whittier School District welcomed hundreds of families, students, and community members to its annual Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, May 2, at Carmela Elementary School, in partnership with Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn.
The event kicked off with opening remarks from Supervisor Janice Hahn’s office, encouraging attendees to take advantage of the many free resources and services available throughout the day. South Whittier School District Superintendent Dr. Gary Gonzales also addressed guests, highlighting the district’s ongoing commitment to building strong community partnerships that support the health, wellness, and success of local families and students.
Designed to connect families with valuable community resources, the annual fair featured dozens of local organizations and agencies offering information, services, and support. Participating partners included the LA County Library, Think Together, California Highway Patrol, the LA County Department of Public Health, and many others.
Attendees had access to a variety of free services, including vaccines provided by LA County Public Health, vision screenings, dental check ups through West Coast Dental and complimentary haircuts. Families also explored educational resources, wellness programs, and opportunities available throughout the community.
In addition to community services, the fair celebrated the many programs and talents within South Whittier School District. Each school hosted an interactive booth showcasing campus programs, student activities, and opportunities for families. The district’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program performed at the event with a series of student performances, including mariachi music, dance, cheer, instrumental performances, and musical theatre pieces from productions such as Shrek and Coco.
Guests also enjoyed a student art exhibit featuring impressive artwork from students across all grade levels, as well as a hands-on robotics exhibit where participants could explore coding and programming activities. The district’s Physical Education program added to the excitement with sports games.
The annual Health and Wellness Fair continues to serve as a meaningful celebration of community, student achievement, and the many resources available to support South Whittier families year-round.
